Fiji Bodybuilding Federation will be hosting the 2023 Mr and Mrs Fiji competition at the Civic Centre at 5pm today.

Vice-president for Fiji Bodybuilding Federation Meli Yavala, made this known during a weighing in session for competitors in Suva yesterday.

“So we’re just taking the competitors’ weight to see who will be in what category,” he said.

The last Mr and Mrs Competition was held two years ago in Suva.

“It’s good to have the competition again after two years. The COVID-19 pandemic kind of disrupted things for us but we are starting again now. Yavala said that for this year’s competition, there would be three categories for women and more than 10 for the men.

“At the moment, we have only one women competitor out of the total of 50 that will be competing.”

He said the competition served as a trial for the team they would be sending to the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands in November.

“There is a certain criteria one has to meet in order to make the national squad. “One of the main one is that each and every competitor that wishes to make the national squad has to go through trials.

“This is why we will be having two competitions this year.”

Yavala said though the standard of body building had slightly dropped over these two years because of the pandemic.

He thanked their sponsors for continuing to support the board.

“Just want to thank our sponsors, Kundan Singh Supermarket, for still staying by our side for the past two years.”
