COVID-19: Ministry prepared for rising number of cases

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is prepared for the rising numbers of new COVID-19 cases over the next two days.

Permanent Secretary for Health, Dr James Fong clarified is in a statement yesterday.

Dr Fong said this is because they are expecting a high volume of swab results from primary and secondary contacts of existing cases as they are being processed with Fiji CDC which has just come back online.

Dr Fong confirmed that there are currently 49 active cases of COVID-19 in the country.

Four are border quarantine cases, 33 are local cases and 12 are currently classified as cases of community transmission.

He said there have been three recoveries over the past 24 hours.
