GREAT Britain led by World Rugby Sevens Series all-time leading point’s scorer Dan Norton will provide the third challenge for Fiji in a space of a day and a half during the pool stage at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Fiji’s first challenge is playing Japan in the opening match at nine o’clock (Fiji Time 12pm) at the Tokyo Stadium on July 26 with  the second challenge against the plucky Canadians at 8pm.

Fiji thrashed Great Britain 43-7 in the final to win the gold medal during the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Norton, Dan Bibby, Ollie Lindsay-Hague and Tom Mitchell are the surviving members from Rio who will feature in Tokyo. The Great Britain side is also boosted with the services of Scotland 7s captain Robbie Fergusson.

Team Fiji men’s rugby 7s coach Baber said  they are not aware of how the Great Britain players are going to gel. “The Great Britain team is made up of the best players in Great Britain,” he said.

“So that becomes the third challenge as they come together from Wales, Scotland and England. “But again we will deal with that as we get closer to the second day.

The reality is that we need to ensure that we are in the right frame of mind going into the tournament.

“Getting focused on the opposition who we play is very important. It is just a part of what we do and ultimately we will be concentrating firmly on what we bring and the developments we can make in our game to create pressure on every opponent we play against.”
