Two prominent Fijian football players are among those who have submitted fake vaccination cards to the Fiji Football Association.
Fiji FA chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said they managed to detect the fake cards through an examination of their own database on players.
“This is a very serious issue for us. We have sent the cards to the Ministry of Health for verification and are awaiting a response,” Yusuf said.
The Fiji FA is planning to restart the Digicel Premier League next month and had asked all districts to submit the names and vaccination cards of players who had received their second dose.
“We are very serious about our players who we need to be fully vaccinated. The process requires that we submit details of fully vaxed players before approval is given for games to restart.
“It is a positive sign that we have detected these fake cards. Let this be a message to other players who are thinking of submitting fake cards.”
Yusuf said any player found guilty would be dealt internally.
“The player will be charged with a disciplinary offence.”
