No jab, no benefits: $1440 and $7200 payments for households

Households with four eligible individuals will receive $1440 in unemployment benefits and homes with 10 eligible Fijians will pocket $7200 directly from Government under a new initiative.

Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum announced the new scheme while delivering the 2021/2022 National Budget in Parliament last Friday.

However, he said to be eligible Fijians had at least three weeks from now to ensure that they got at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“No jabs no unemployment benefits,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

“We will make the second payment of $360 in November to eligible Fijians provided they are fully vaccinated by 31st October, with a total estimated payout of an additional $100 million.

“This payment will cater for the three months ending January 2022.

“We will make medical exception, of course, for those with a certificate from the permanent secretary for Health and Medical Services.

“Individuals will be required to apply for this assistance and payouts will be made using M-PAiSA and MyCash platforms.

“It will also be mandatory for applicants to provide their birth certificate registration number and their tax identification number apart from other details.”
