A full lockdown could be the best strategy to flush out the COVID-19 virus, says Suva Retailers Association president Jetesh Patel.

He made the statement to support the full lockdown in the Suva-Nausori areas which started on Friday night to next Wednesday morning.

He said the full lockdown would make work easier for health personnel in their efforts to contact trace people.

He said businesses were advised that they could not operate during this period.

“It’s clear that they can’t open because the regulations are in place,” Mr Patel said.

“We all should be doing that at the moment, as we know the Government is trying its best to cover every individual.”

However, Ministry of Health permanent secretary Dr James Fong said the four days lockdown would not flush out the virus but give them a better idea on steps to take next because data showed there were emerging cases in the area.

Meanwhile, 50 people were arrested for breaching the COVID-19 restrictions in the past 24 hours.
