Sahil Prasad took out the South Seas Club Trustees-sponsored 2023 Snooker Championship after defeating surprise finalist Rajnesh Nand 3-0.
Nand proved to be the dark horse of the tournament, defeating Roneil Sami in the quarter-finals and former Fiji B Grade champion Krishneel Naicker in the semi-finals to reach the grand stage.
Prasad, a Fiji rep, proved too strong for Nand, winning 53-29, 63-29, 73-31 on the scorecard.
He beat defending champion Nitesh Chand in the quarter-finals and then Deepak Jai Ram of the Tigers Club from Nausori in the semi-finals.
Championship co-ordinator Raymond Reddy said Nand came in as an unranked player but stood above his weight.
“Sahil is Fiji’s number one but Rajnesh took him on, denying him any breaks,” Reddy said.
“Rajnesh played a defensive game. “The tournament was a great success. We are planning to host another tournament during the Easter weekend this April.” Prasad received $400 for winning the competition.
