Common sense needs to prevail in communities of Vanua Levu considering the COVID situation on the island.

Ministry of Health’s permanent secretary Dr James Fong made this comment after some business operators raised their concerns about having to cancel New Years events.

The business operators said that police have directed them to cancel parties and events scheduled for the NY.

“In actual fact those would be good sense actions to take given the cases seen in the North community,” Dr Fong said.

“We urgently need this good sense in the common sense space.”

Dr Fong applauded the efforts of police and community leaders in reaching out to cancel such events.

“I commend the Police and Community leaders for their proactive stance. It should not need a directive or punitive  police action for the community to adhere to these public health  measures.”
