Velovelo resident Prem Chand says his Saweni, Lautoka, market vending business has been hit hard by the recent lockdown of more than 60 households.

He said he was looking forward to selling vegetables he had just bought from Sigatoka when the lockdown was announced.

“I have a lot of customers in the lockdown area,” said Mr Chand.

“I don’t know how I will be able to continue selling here because I can’t go to the Lautoka market.

“It’s too crowded and this market is better for me because it’s close to where I live.”

He said he hoped vendors would still be allowed to supply vegetables at the Saweni Top community border.

Saweni Top settlement and Vakatora Housing near Waiyavi were sealed off on June 14 after a number of positive cases were confirmed this week.

The two communities are under the mandatory 14-day lockdown.
